Visa-Free Travel to China from Norway (2026 Guide)

Norwegian citizens can travel to China visa-free for up to 30 days. Norway is on China’s unilateral visa-free list — here’s exactly how the policy works in 2026.

The short answer

As a Norwegian passport holder, you can enter mainland China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business, visiting family, exchanges or transit. The arrangement is currently valid until December 31, 2026.

Getting there from Norway

Direct flights run from Oslo to Beijing, with Scandinavian Airlines, Air China and others among the carriers. A typical non-stop is about 9–10 hours. Connecting options via another European hub add a few hours. Schedules change seasonally, so confirm current routes when booking.

China is 6–7 hours ahead of Norway (7 in summer, when Norway observes daylight saving time). Arrive in the evening and keep the first day light. The 30-day clock starts the day after you clear Chinese immigration.

How the visa-free policy works

• Purposes: tourism, business, visiting family/friends, exchanges, and transit.
• Entry: any open port in mainland China — air, land or sea.

• Overstaying the 30 days — the count starts the day after arrival; overstaying risks fines and problems at exit.
• Assuming the policy has been extended — it expires 31 December 2026; always verify before booking.
• Using visa-free entry for work or study — it doesn’t apply; get the right visa.

Making the most of your stay

Thirty days is more than most Norwegian travelers need, so you can slow down. A classic first-timer route (Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai) fits comfortably inside two weeks, and the Shanghai–Suzhou–Hangzhou loop makes an easy rail circuit for a shorter trip. Norwegian travelers who love winter will enjoy northern China’s cold, dry winters. Chinese spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the mildest seasons; summer in eastern China is hot and humid, unlike a Norwegian summer.
